How to Use Video to Market your Business

Created by Makyzz - Freepik.com

Creating an effective business video takes times, resources and expert planning. Whether you’re creating the video in-house or hiring a video production company to produce the content, the process can be intimidating and lengthy. Once completed, you may be tempted to sit back and admire your accomplishment. However, creating the video is only the half of it, now it’s time to engage your target audience.

Social media has many great tools and resources that you can utilize to get the best return on your investment. Below are three areas that almost any social media platform allows you to target through advertising.

1. Audience

2. Location

3. Interests/Keywords

All three areas should of course be determined before your video is produced. Any video production company worth their weight, should be evaluating this with you in the pre-production phase. This makes for a more concise video with a clear promotional strategy that will speak directly to your target audience. That is the end-game. A good example of this is a video I created for PBS Companies. We had a very narrow target audience that we pre-determined to market to. Let’s look more closely at the three aforementioned areas.

Audience can of course be broken up into age and gender and should be considered carefully. 18-24 year olds might not have any interest in your product or service, so why waste your marketing dollars advertising to an age group who will ignore your ad? Style of music and overall tone of the video will also be determined by this.

Location can be targeted by radius, town, county or state. This isn’t like marketing in the past where you were basically forced to market to a broad audience (think TV commercials or print ads). These social media resources allow for precise targeting based on your pre-determined market.

Interests/Keywords help to further refine your audience. If a potential customer searched for your service or product online or had a related interest in it, your video will target them. Come up with five keywords that reflect your service, product or overall message and use them as tags, titles and keywords.

In summary, determining your target audience should be the first step in creating an effective marketing campaign to help grow your business.
